How to replace or re-insert the screw into the seal

The screw may come out of the seal if you accidentally squeeze it. If the screw comes out of the seal, you should re-insert the screw by following the instructions below. Remove the screw from the seal. To do this ensure that the seal is in the decompressed state (where the screw has been turned anticlockwise until it hits the stop). Then simultaneously squeeze the upper and lower parts of the seal together with one hand, and use the index finger of your other hand to turn the screw anticlockwise until it is loose enough to fall out of the seal.

To insert the new screw, squeeze the upper and lower parts of the seal together with one hand and, while compressed, insert the screw into the seal and turn it clockwise until it stops.The seal will then be in an engaged position so you should disengage by attaching the handle to the seal and turning the screw anticlockwise until it stops. The seal will then be ready for use.

What to do if wine or water gets inside the seal

Remove the screw from the seal and allow the water or wine to drain out of the seal and leave to air dry for a day or two. Re-insert the screw. To remove and re-insert the screw, follow the instructions and video above.

What to do if the seal detaches from the handle as you are removing it from the decanter

This can happen if the cap is pressed too firmly into the decanter. To avoid this happening again, remove the seal by pulling on the cap instead of the handle.
