FAQs

Why does Wine Squirrel preserve wine so well?

The key to the effectiveness of Wine Squirrel is its unique sealing mechanism which provides an airtight seal to prevent oxygen from spoiling the wine.

Is the Wine Squirrel technology new?

Yes, no other product has used the Wine Squirrel technology to create an airtight seal . It has taken a number of years to develop and perfect the technology.

How long does Wine Squirrel preserve wine for?

Wine Squirrel can keep your wine fresh for up to 4 weeks. The precise length of time will vary according to the wine as each wine is unique. For example, high quality young wines will generally last longer. So will tannic red wines or high acid white wines. Older or more delicate wines should be drunk sooner. Also some grape varieties last longer than others. For example cabernet sauvignon will generally last longer than pinot noir and riesling will generally last longer than sauvignon blanc.

What about the oxygen that comes into contact with the wine when poured into the decanter?

Luckily the oxidation from pouring the wine into the decanter is tiny in comparison to the continued oxidation of an open bottle. Over a period of days or weeks the biggest factor affecting oxidation is the oxygen that is continually introduced into the wine. Wine Squirrel minimizes this due to its superior sealing system. We have spent a lot of time testing this! Our typical test involves a tasting every week for 3 weeks and the wine has tasted great in all these tests (unlike the re-corked wine that tasted terrible).

Why should I store my Wine Squirrel preserved wine in the fridge?

Wine keeps better for longer at cooler temperatures. Even red wines should be kept in the fridge and taken out an hour or two before serving.

How much wine does the Wine Squirrel decanter hold?

The Wine Squirrel decanter has a holding capacity of 750ml or a standard bottle of wine. It is designed to preserve a maximum of about 600ml or 1 bottle less a glass of wine.

Can I use the Wine Squirrel decanter to preserve sparkling wine?

You should not use the Wine Squirrel decanter to preserve sparkling wine. The pressure build up is too large.

Can I wash the Wine Squirrel decanter and seal/handle in the dishwasher?

The Wine Squirrel seal and handle should never be put in the dishwasher as heat can demagnetize the magnets. All it needs is a rinse, best done immediately after removing the seal from the decanter. Remember to put the plug in the seal to prevent water getting inside. The Wine Squirrel decanter is best washed by hand but is dishwasher safe.

What is the Wine Squirrel decanter made of?

The Wine Squirrel decanter is made of high quality borosilicate.

Is Wine Squirrel BPA free?

Yes, Wine Squirrel is made entirely of BPA free materials.
